Pai - Popular Mountain Resort and Farang Enclave in Northern Thailand
If you'd like to disappear off the face of the map and drop out from the real world, there is no better place than Pai, a very pleasant mountain resort and dedicated farang enclave in Thailand's northern province of Mae Hong Son.The mountain air is clean and crisp and free of pollution, and during the dry season, the morning temperature is below 50F and at night, a comfortable 65F. So bring a sweater or light jacket during the dry season, November - May.
Pai is "A real United Nations Village" as in a short amount of time, one will meet people of so many different nationalities - Israelis, Swedes, Canadians, young Japanese backpackers, Flemish, Finns, Dutch, Germans, Aussies, Kiwis, French, Italians, Brits, Swiss, Spaniards and a token Yankee or two. Although somewhat devoid of Thai ambiance per se, there is something special and magical about this rural mountain resort. The most popular activity in Pai is getting high, hanging around any number of small cafes shooting the breeze with fellow farang travelers. In addition, a lot of artistic types - writers, poets, watercolorists, musicians etc - find Pai a perfect place for their creative juices to flow and have made it their permanent abode.
In an odd sort of way, arriving in Pai is sort of like entering "The Twilight Zone". For those of you who don't know what I'm referring to, Twilight Zone was a popular science fiction sitcom in the 1960's. Many visitors stay in Pai for months or years, never to go back to their westernized home country or to the trappings of real civilization. I believe that many visitors' stay in Pai comes to an end when their traveler's visa expires. Some of these dropouts make the run across the border to Myanmar and get their visa extended. Like I said, many people disappear in Pai and never return to the life they left behind.
"You're travelling to another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound... but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land, whose boundaries are only that of the imagination... you're entering... the Twilight Zone"

Queen Suriyothai Of Thailand
Suriyothai was the Queen of Thailand. She was the wife of King Maha Chakraphat of Ayutthaya who reigned from 1549 to 1569. Suriyothai is considered as a Heroine of Thailand, who sacrificed her life while trying to save her husband during a battle.
King Maha Chakraphat was famous for his white elephants. He had a number of them and according to Brahminic beliefs, a monarch who had one or more white elephant was a symbol of glory and success. It is believed that King Maha Chakraphat's reign was extremely successful.
The King ascended to the throne in 1549. After just six months, he was challenged by the King of Burma to a war. The King of Burma had a personal grudge towards the King and he wanted to capture the main city, Ayutthaya, which was the capital of Siam. During those days Thailand was called Siam.
The Siamese king could not let the challenge go and as the king, Maha Chakraphat led his army in defense of the capital. During those times women were not allowed to take part in wars. But Queen Suriyothai was concerned about her husband's well being and wanted to be at his side during the battle. However, the King would not hear of it so Suriyothai disguised herself as a man and she joined her husband in the battlefield. During the battle, King Maha Chakraphat's elephant was killed and taking advantage of this Burmese king tried to kill him. However, Queen Suriyothai intercepted the attack and died in the bargain. When the Burmese King found out that he had killed a woman, he was extremely ashamed and immediately withdrew from the battle; leaving Ayutthaya to Siam.
The queen was looked upon as a heroine for sacrificing her life to save her husband's and is still venerated and revered in Thailand for her bravery.

Thai Girls And Thailand Travel in 5 Easy Steps
If you've hit an age where meeting attractive younger (than you) girls or women seems to be a wicked challenge, maybe it's time to consider opening your mind to new horizons. Yes I'm talking about Thai girls and Thai women here. And doing it from a guy who has lived in Thailand for the best part of four years.
But before we meet the perfect Thai girl, why Thailand? Maybe it's the attention. It's hard not to be taken by people who seem to be always smiling, welcoming and friendly. And with a great 'not too serious about anything much' attitude and the Thai Buddhist qualities, well, it's all quite compelling.
Anyway, Thailand is a world in itself, so be prepared to be amazed and have all your normal 'logical' thinking replaced with ongoing illogical and strange behavior. In other words, Thailand is a completely weird place. Just remember that when you travel to a foreign country, after you get there, you become the foreigner...
Amongst all its differences, the pleasures are true and fascinating. There's no doubt Thailand is a crazy world. But strangely enough, it seems to hang together well. And the proof is in the pudding... having thrown myself into this lifestyle, I now feel somewhat 'apprehensive' about having to travel to a Western country and meet Western people. Why would I feel that way?
Maybe because I've been immersed in smiling, polite Thai people who always welcomed me and wanted to know about me. Maybe because I've been surrounded by Thai food that is always so important everywhere you go. Food that... "shows how we delicately care about feelings of people." And then there's the Thai girls...
Let's talk about Thai girls and the Thai world through these 5 simple steps:
Step one: Go to http://yourthaigirl.com and read the downloadable ebook, (and while you're there sign up to the Thai Girl, Thai Life newsletter). In this ebook you'll learn all about Thai culture, lifestyle, and of course, Thai girls.
You get savvy on what to do, what not to do, when to do it, and where to go and do it. You'll know what it all means, and the ebook will give you the 'inside picture' to the world of Thailand.
Step two: Book your ticket to Thailand as soon as you can. When you arrive, prepare for the slam... the heat... an invisible hammer that hits you with its mighty force... rushes to greet you with the power of a thousand simmering angels...
And yet, before you know it, you'll be slipping down the long passageways inside the cool air conditioned airport. Get your bags, your bearings, your Thai girl book and prepare for your biggest journey. (Hey, Thailand is not as hot as you think :-)
Step three: Get out and meet and greet people. Prepare your name card, your few words of Thai, a nice hotel or resort with a funny name, and your best clothes. In this country, it pays to look good. Thai's like to be clean, fresh, and attractive. No kidding.
Step four: Just be you. Expect lots of questions. The Thai's want to learn English... speak English with you. You'll have a great, precious, remarkable time. Be adventurous. Be a tourist. Learn new things. Travel on the sky train.
Step five: That's it, all done. Remember though to keep light-hearted. The Thai's like to have fun, not be 'too serious' and will appreciate it if you show respect to the things that are important to them. The key word is enjoyment. Have fun.
Actually, there's really nothing to it. It's so easy (once you're here!) The main thing is to keep your calm, appreciate the beauty of Thai girls, seek out quality relationships, and let me know how it all goes, okay.

The Ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand - eBook Review
One of Mike Fook's latest helpful guides is, "The Ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand" which appears to be exactly that.
Mike tones down his usual hard-hitting style with this more than 100 page information packed guide for wannabe teachers of English in the "Land of Smiles" as Thailand is often known.
Recent changes have made teaching in Thailand a rather exclusive occupation. Gone are the days of backpackers from Europe or North America popping over to Thailand for a years stay and teaching part-time as they wish.
A number of regulations have been put into place by Thai Ministry of Education authorities which have increased the hoops one needs to jump through in order to teach legally in Thailand. Police background checks from the hopeful teachers home country as well as within Thailand are necessary in most cases.
There is now a Thailand Teaching License that must be awarded for those wishing to teach in Thailand's government school system. This teaching license requires a Thai culture course be attended by all teaching applicants and has set the expat teaching community reeling. Many teachers have since left the country for what they saw as greener grass in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam to name a few Asian countries that benefitted from the English teachers' exodus from Thailand.
Mike covers everything would-be teachers need to know starting with tasks teachers need to complete before leaving their home country. Most foreign English teachers do not stay to teach long-term because it just is not what they expected. Mike states that he hopes to give those considering teaching in Thailand a very realistic view of what the job and cultural experience is like, thereby cutting down on the number of people that waste a year of their lives.
Mike relates that there seems to be a certain type of person that is cut out for the task.
- Teachers that go easily with the 'flow' are going to do best in the Thai school system because often the schedule changes at a moment's notice.
- Those that match themselves with an area, a climate, a cultural tempo that fits them are more likely to survive and thrive as a teacher in Thailand - or as a long-term expat.
- Adventurists that come to teach for the pure experience of living in and teaching in another culture across the globe tend to do well. Their reward is everyday that they are teaching something new to Thai children and adults, not when the the school day ends at 4:30 p.m.
Before moving to Thailand five years ago, I spent thirty-dollars or so on four paperback books that were supposed to prepare me for teaching in Thailand. None of these books prepared me much for the reality of living, eating, breathing, and getting along socially in a country so different from my own home in America. Mike's book is extremely comprehensive and I can highly recommend "The Ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand" as the premiere resource available on the subject.
Author, Vern Lovic is an avid ebook writer and online ebook business manager at a new Thailand ebook website called, ThailandeBooks.com an ebook store that features the Ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand as well as a number of other Thailand focused books including Joy's Thai Food series, Living in Thailand and more.

Udon Thani Thailand
Udon Thani is the capital of Udon Thani province in the north east (Isaan region) of Thailand. Situated 560 km from Bangkok, travelling to the city is made easy by regular air, train and bus routes. Udon is a transport center that connects itself to all the major cities. The province itself is recognized as one of the poorer areas in Thailand with agriculture (mainly rice and sugar cane) being its main industry alongside its transport hub. The city itself is never going to creep up behind you twist your arm and take you on a rollercoaster ride, you need to poke it and prod it, shake it to life and then you will be pleasantly surprised by what it has to offer.
The Chareonsri Shopping Compact is a good a place as any to start, a modern shopping mall in the city center full of everything you could wish to buy; clothes, jewellery, fashion accessories, DVDs, mobile phones, souvenirs, electrical goods, photo shoots and many other items. A supermarket, restaurants, fast food outlets, money exchanges, cinema and ten pin bowling make the Chareonsri one of the best shopping malls outside Bangkok.
Try an early morning visit to the Nong Prajak Park used by locals for jogging and exercise, stroll around the lake and admire the flowers and plants, afterwards eat Thai style breakfast at one of the many stalls opposite. If you fancy a full english breakfast then you will not find better than what is on offer at the Irish Clock Pub in Soi Sampantamit Road (5 minutes from the Chareonsri Mall) an air conditioned bar with an extensive Thai and western menu. Getting around the city is easy with the countless small buses, samlors (like a tuk tuk) and pedaled two seater carriages.
Some of the hotels have swimming pools which offer a pleasant way to spend the afternoons, the Napalai Hotel is one which is open for use to non hotel residents. If you are hiring a car then take the 50 km trip east to Ban Chiang bronze age archaeological site which some experts have dated back to 5000 years ago or travel 50 km north to the border city of Nong Khai. In Nong Khai you can sit in a restaurant at the splendid Indo-china market overlooking the Mekong River, eat tasty grilled fish and view Laos across the water.
Evening time in Udon and you are really spoilt for choice by the abundance of Thai and western restaurants, the ten minute walk from the Chareonsri Shopping Compact to the Centre Point night market ( near the train station) will pass you by several restaurants. The night market is a must see venue with its wealth of stalls selling a wide range of goods and if you are still feeling hungry there are plenty of food vendors and sit down eateries here. Centre Point also has a cluster of bars where you can sit and drink and view sport or music on a giant TV screen. For the more adventurous night revellers then head for Soi Sampantamit Road and there should be enough bars and action to make your evening enjoyable. All in all Udon Thani offers plenty for everyone but you've got to get out there and prod, poke, shake and wake it and you will see Udon is well worth a visit...MY VERDICT....Udon Thani is a good location for singles to spend a week or two, for couples and families three to four days would be ideal if you are travelling to or from North Thailand.

The Most Dangerous Resorts
The British insurance company Norwich Union Travel Insurance drew up the rate of the most dangerous and comfortable resorts. It is advisable to use caution in Thailand, in African, Caribbean, and Czech Republic Countries... It's quite on the cards that this research aimed in the first place at the tourists taking care of themselves, purchasing their product- travel insurances. However, you would do well to take experts' advices.
The dangerous Thailand exotics
By analyzing 60 thousand of appeals received from the tourists in 2005, the insurers found out that the people who spent their time in Thailand claim their compensations more frequently. Accidents, food poisoning and domestic thefts, according to British information, take place notably in that country.
You should be quite careful, though, the Thai men in coming season who celebrate the sixtieth birthday of their darling monarch this year, took quite a lot of measures to raise the comfort and safety of the tourists coming to meet the exotics.
In Thailand, it is strongly recommended not to agree to doubtful dirt-cheap excursions and when traveling by taxi, you should always realize whether the driver understands you correctly.
You have to take along the hotel's card with the address and the scheme how to get there, written in the Thai language. It is necessary for you to explain the taxi driver your route.
True, sometimes you can meet in Thailand such drivers who can't read even in native language. You should keep away from such kind of cabmen.
The quite free dispositions have become the peculiar problem recently on some of the popular resorts of the country. The resort cities of western Thailand's seaboards have been filled by the round-the-clock disco clubs with the indispensable usage of various light stuff, the braziers with the doubtful contents that stand right at the beach edge, ubiquitous prostitutes and "pseudo beggary", as well as doubtful "massage parlours".
So, before choosing the hotel, you should thoroughly consult a travel agent regarding the orders in particular place.
Not to darken your rest by the serious poisoning, it is recommended not to drink water from the tap. You should always buy water in bottles (it is often given in the hotels for free) and use it for fruit washing, tooth brushing and so on. In addition, it is better to abstain from the strangers' offers of food or drinks (it is often offered by the taxi drivers or "rat-taters").
Keep off walking in Africa
The next conclusion of the British researchers is that the guests of Southern Africa often become the robbery victims (including the using of weapons). Here the baggage loosing is common.
All the tour operators specialized in this area forestall that the crime rate in SAR is too high, and Johannesburg is considered to be the most criminogenic zone in the world. Therefore, the extreme-lovers, who tend to arrive in this country, should take high precautions with regard to either luggage safety and personal safety. Of course, the local police works in the sweat of his face, and such districts as Sawetto, Hillibro, Alexandra and Ketlehong in Johannesburg are not recommended for visits. The solo excursions in these places are outright dangerous. Though for sightseeing the main tourist attractions, it also makes sense to make reliable company. The swindle with credit cards in SAR is common, especially in case a credit card is passed into strange hands (for bill payment in restaurant or for parking). Also, the majority of crimes occur among drug addicts (great number of substances are produced in the country, and drug addiction is considered to be national disaster).
However, the distant Africa is dangerous not only because of crime. It is here where vast quantities of thermal shock and thermal burn take place, because of high level of solar radiation. Therefore, it is necessary to wear here sunglasses, use creams, headgear and light clothes with long sleeves. The special danger are poisonous snakes, gnats (especially malarial mosquito " anopheles", widespread on the coastal plains of shore), as well as crocodiles and hippopotamus, about which we have been informed from little up though.
Caribbean Sea parasites
British insurers advise the people who suffer from allergy to avoid Caribbean: there is a special danger of stings of venomous tropical insects. The experts have counted more than 3 thousand cases, when their clients claim compensation after attacks of carnivorous sea inhabitants.
There is a real danger to meet the unfriendly submersible creatures in Barbados, the Bahama Islands or in Cuba, especially during the swimming on the open sea, where the owners are sharks, downstream migrations and other raptors. But the majority of civilized beaches, in this regard, are secure, because they are partitioned off from the ocean by the coral reefs.
But the last ones, as is known, are the refuge for great number of small sea creatures that bites, showing special activity nights and having a rest in the daytime, burying themselves in coastal waters. So, when unlucky tourist treads upon them inadvertently, they at the best sting painfully. Therefore, to spend the time in this paradise, you should demand from travel agents all the gen about where you should be careful and use bath shoes. And being informed about presence of the harmful sea creatures in water, don't submerge, if you can't see any lifeguards on a beach.
One more danger is mosquitoes are found in the Caribbean almost everywhere and serve a carrier of fever.
However, evening "singing" of these bloodsuckers reminds you the necessary to use repellent or protecting screen, better than any instruction.
Keep your money
As counted the British experts, Czech Republic has become the "unapparent" robbery champion.
It is here, where the majority of tourists are becoming the victims of pickpockets.
It should be noted, that this issue gives trouble to the Czech Republic authorities. The placards, warning the negligent travelers about thefts, appear in shops, supermarkets, trams, buses and subway - the place where pickpockets operate most of all. "Have your eyes everywhere!" - the word-for-word translation of the slogan that sounds just in case, have to convince foreign tourists to be watchful.
As the authors of "the dangerous countries rate" mention fairly, it is easy to forget about own safety lying on the beach with the cocktail in your hands and admiring the local beauty. "The aim of our investigation is not to frighten the tourists, who are looking forward the summer holiday, we just tend to inform them about probable difficulties", - noted Don Mackmallan, the Norwich center manager.
At that you shouldn't become paranoiac. As experts say, the vast majority of travels, as a rule, pass without any hindrances. The insurers have called also the most favorable countries for tourism. They are Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France. But it is another subject for discussing.

Wat Pho Temple In Thailand
Wat Pho is also known as the temple of the Reclining Buddha and is located at Phra Nakhon district in Thailand. The temple was built as a restoration of an earlier temple in the exact same place. Actually, the temple construction started in 1788 and was restored in 1824. The Wat Pho was recently restored in 1982 to recapture the old magnificance and grandeur.
The Wat Pho is one of the largest temples in Thailand. It covers an area of 80,000 square feet. Wat Pho houses more than one thousand Buddha images and one of them is the image of the Reclining Buddha. This image is forty six metres long and fifteen metres in height. The body of the image is covered with gold plated sheet and the eyes are made from pearls. The feet of the Reclining Buddha are decorated with 108 auspicious scenes in Chinese and Indian styles.
Prior to the founding of the temple, the place was the center for traditional Thai medicine. There are still still images housed within the temple depicting various yoga positions. The temple is also known as the birth place of traditional Thai massage. In 1962 a school for traditional medicine and massage was also established within the precinct of the temple.
The temple is divided into two blocks by a road that runs from east to west. The first block is where one would find the Reclining Buddha and the second block serves as the residence for monks and it houses the school for the traditional Thai medicine and massage.

Store Your Important Travel Documents With Ease in a Passport Holder
In a recent survey of the most traveled places in the world, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country that made it to the top five, and very rightly so. Thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to the Kingdom all year round to frolic on the stunning beaches, explore the many mountains and rivers, and of course, take advantage of one of the world's most blatant sex industries.
Visits vary from a few days to a few years. Many visit on holiday and never leave. The country is gifted in more ways than one, the people are friendly with foreigners, and the cost of living is amongst the cheapest in the world. Indeed, there's a lot to be said about the mysticism of Thailand, how it reels you in with its beauty until you find yourself never wanting to leave and succumbing to its will.
Visa Runs
Barely a year ago, Thai immigration laws were relaxed and tourist-friendly. Though it varies for some countries, most foreign nationals are automatically given a 30-day grant to stay in the Kingdom upon entry. However, 30 days is grossly insufficient to explore the wonders of Thailand. Border runs were common and most foreign nationals can do as many as he chooses, the popular destinations being the neighboring countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia. You simply needed to take a trip to the border, bearing your passport in its passport holder, and you get another 30 days.
With the ousting of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, however, immigration laws have since been tightened. Border runs are now limited to 2 instances, after which, a foreign national has to leave the country for at least 100 days. This is a huge inconvenience for foreign nationals who want to stay longer or stay for good. An alternative is getting a proper tourist or non-immigrant visa, which is a seemingly easy process that actually gets tedious as you go along.
A Small Relief
Visiting the immigration office can be daunting. It's even worse when you have to stand in line for hours with your arms laden with important documents that can help you stay in the Kingdom.
As tedious as visa processing may be, it can at least be made convenient by a passport holder. A passport holder can easily carry your passport, immigration cards, and other documents that you may need. When you have everything stored and organized in your passport holder, you don't have to worry about dropping an important document in your haste.
Passport holders are often made of leather or a similar waterproof material. This is a great help, considering Thailand's often unpredictable weather. A passport holder can protect your documents from sudden rain showers, so you can present your crisp and clean documents to the immigration officer without a hitch.
Indeed, applying to live in Thailand, or in any foreign country for that matter, is never easy. However, your stress can at least be alleviated by the proper storage and protection of those much needed documents in a handy passport holder. It's a travel must-have, and one that you must get at once.

Experience Paris on the Grand River - Toronto's Nearby Southern Ontario Getaway
The famous cliché "An Evening in Paris" truly fits the setting of the prettiest town in Southern Ontario. The town of Paris is located in a valley surrounded by rivers. This is an old town named after the "Plaster of Paris" mined in the valley during 1820. There are numerous boutiques and cafes nestled along a riverside landscape. Through the town flows the beautiful Grand River. The pace here is slower...the traffic less...and the space is open!
In the surrounding Grand River Valley...families, friends and romantics can create their own getaway. This countryside town is an amazing "off path" discovery...three miles from a 403 highway exit...60-90 minutes from Toronto-Niagara areas.
This "little-town" setting offers a smorgasbord of activities. Within 15 minutes one can be experiencing a wilderness paddle by canoe, kayak or raft. There is excellent bass fishing, golfing and cycling trails. There is even spring whitewater rafting and secluded wilderness camping. The richness of the Carolinian wildlife and fauna makes the valley a hiker's paradise.
The downtown business center of Paris is healthy, with a large array of shops, riverside cafes, restaurants and old gothic/cobblestone buildings. There is the famous Mary Maxim wool-craft retail shop and Halls Linens, which attract people from all across Canada.
In the evening one can stroll along the Grand River to the old dam or walk along the meandering Nith River through Lion's Park. Experiencing dusk along the river beside the murmuring water is good medicine for the soul.
If wishing an extended stay, the flavor of the local Bed & Breakfasts accents the experience of the town. There is the countryside setting of River Ridge B&B, the semi-rural Country Manor or the in-town Behind the Pines. Paris also hosts excellent food from the award winning Camp 31 ribs to the succulent prime rib of the Cedar House.
Paris's location makes it a hub for day trips. Within one hour, visitors can step into the era of horse and buggy in Mennonite country. Or enjoy a day at the sand beaches of Lake Erie. Thirty minutes away are numerous aboriginal culture centers of the Six Nations, the largest population of Iroquois in Canada...the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora plus Delaware and New Credit Missasaugas.
Another unique feature in the valley is the ability for visitors to go online to plan their day trip or getaway in Paris. This online service offers a smorgasbord of activities with restaurants, accommodations and adventures...all price listed.
With this smorgasbord concept, people can choose an itinerary to fit their time frame and budget...reducing surprises! The true surprise is discovering such unexpected beauty so close to Toronto.
Today everything is packaged from TV dinners to vacations. If tired of following the "paint-by-number" crowd... and wanting some space and diversity... then discover Paris... the gateway to the Grand River Valley.
A scenic spot on Southern Ontario's map...definitely worth visiting!

Safe Vacation Tips
When you travel, you must always think safety first. If you take some precaution for your business or pleasure trips, you can prevent many accidents and situations. Follow these tips for a safe trip.
You should carry minimum luggage as possible. You want to be able to watch over the luggage at all time. Label each piece of luggage with your name, address and phone number. If you lost your luggage, the related authority will be able to contact you. Be sure your luggage can be locked. You should also make sure that you do not forget to lock it, before you leave your house. While you are waiting at the airport, you should keep your luggage close to you. If you leave your luggage lying around, people may think that it is a bomb. You want to avoid unnecessary problems.
If you have a purse, hole your purse under your arm. You should carry a wallet in the front trouser pocket or inside coat. It is not smart to flash your money or credit card around. You do not know who is looking at you. If it is possible, leave important non-travel papers like your social security and credit cards at home. If you must carry your credit cards on your trips, you do not want to carry all of your credit cards. You should use traveler check instead.
If you are traveling to a foreign country, you want to photocopy all documents such as passport, tickets, and credit cards.

Chatuchak Market Of Thailand
Bangkok's Chatuchak Market is a must-see. There is nothing like experiencing a market place spread across 35 acres of land with over 15,000 stall selling everything from Buddha statues to exotic pets and T-shirts.
Chatuchak Market is located right next to Chatuchak Park, which is at the northern end of Bangkok. The market is only open at the weekends and you should make sure you get there early, around 9.30 a.m. or 10 a.m. at the latest. You will find out that by noon the market is buzzing with people and you will get jostled quite a bit by the crowd. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on your wallet or purse otherwise you could end up losing it to the pickpockets in the marketplace.
An easy way to get to Chatuchak Market is taking the Skytrain and you have to get off on the last stop on the Sukkhumvit line which is going north. The stop is Mo Chit and you will clearly see the numerous stall as the Skytrain pulls into the station. From the Skytrain station, the market is a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, you can take the subway and get off at Kampangphet. The entrance of this MRT subway station is right in the middle of the market.
Make sure you carry a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. As you can get any and everything in Chatuchak Market, buy your gifts there as you will be able to pick up things for half the price of a conventional "touristy" shop. You will get the best bargains at Chatuchak Market for Thai silks, handicrafts, wooden carvings, jewelry and gems.
